Back in January of 2000, the artist, R.C. Gray, was spending far too much time with a fellow artist and was ignoring his wife, Deej. As atonement,
he drew a comic strip series spoof of Iron Chef, called Iron Spouse. He continued after that, depicting episodes of their life together in
semi-autobiographical comic strip series.
When he joined Hapkido under Grandmaster Jae Song, the varied personalities of the instructors and students, as well as the never ending supply of pain
from punches, kicks, throws, joint locks and pressure points seemed good fodder for a new comic storyline. Taking events and moments from his tenure as
a lower belt, R. C. produced a storyline intended to show that “life is never in short supply of dishing out
humility and humbleness. And that bruises come in all shapes, sizes and colours!”
